Monday Morning Reflections on a Tuesday
Tuesday Morning Reflections…This past Sunday at LowCountry-Bluffton, Louie Giglio spoke on hope, via video. It was an incredibly powerful message. Some take-aways from it: That said, there really is nowhere else I would rather be. Most of the time we need to get out of our comfort zones to be where the Lord of the universe is anyway. See the upcoming series summary
- the Cross isn’t something that is just to relegated to our past; it has present power in our lives today;
- the Cross proves that sometimes circumstances don’t change;
- the cross also proves that although circumstances may not change, God has a purpose in those circumstances;
- a changed life is one of the most powerful apologetics for the gospel;
- video teaching works;
- people sometimes cuss on the way to church!This week I will be spending almost all of my time on message and series preparation for the first half of 2009.Except for 1:00 p.m. on New Year’s Day when we’ll see the Tigers one more time! Speaking of football: were the Dallas Cowboys serious with that display? Darlene and I were watching their game for a while and she said, “Turn the channel; I can’t take this anymore. It’s too painful.” And my Ravens are in!People actually wore Nebraska gear to church … thus proving that we are attracting pagan people to LCC! (That one was for you, Jen, and no way am I linking anybody to Nebraska football!)Tragic news: Dosido’s closed down in Bluffton. They had THE best grilled chicken salad around. I’m devastated …Speaking of food, here are a few restaurants I’d love to see come our way: Waffle House (can you call that a restaurant?), Houston’s, Olive Garden and P.F. Chang’s. It would be wrong of me not to mention Dunkin’ Donuts, and represent our children’s pastor, Vinnie, with that one. We start a Saturday night service at LLC-Bluffton the first weekend in February. I’M PUMPED!A new series begins called, “On Your Mark, Get Set.” I’ll be sharing things I learned during my recent sabbatical. Most all of it is in regard to where I believe God is calling us as a church. It’s scary BIG, and will take you and I out of our comfort zones – again!
- Men and women clean differently. Women dust. Men don't dust. We need the dust there so we know where to put things back.
- Why, when ordering fish in a restaurant, do I always ask if the fish is fresh? What are they going to tell me? "No, it's four days old and stinks to high heaven."
- I noticed on a jar of pickles in our frig that the pickle company has a 24-hour, 1-800 hotline. Seriously? Who has pickle problems?
- Three words guaranteed to humiliate me every time: “Hold my purse.” (Anytime I have to do that for Darlene, I tuck it under my arm like a football…but who am I kidding?)
